FAQ: The original reason I went with the KMiata Getrag 260 kit over the ZF kit was so I could keep the Miata differential, since the Getrag 5-Speed has wider.
hey all, ill just get straight to the point... im building a turbo m20 once winter rolls around, my car has the getrag 260 and my plans are to make about 5-600 whp... can the getrag handle this or do i need to upgrade to a different trans? There is a company here in the states that says the e36 m3 5 speed (ZF) should be able to handle that power and that it would bolt up to the m20 just fine, but every where i have read says otherwise?? Can someone help set me straight either with their own personal build and or some legit technical info? Thanks in advance fellas.

In 1982 the BMW 325e had the Getrag 260 and the following year all BMW 6 cylinder models got the 260 up until 1985. These early 260 transmissions were a bit problematic. In 1985 BMW made an unusual move, they switched back to the Getrag 265 in the 5/ 6/ & 7.
